Organic coffee

How our Organic Coffee is made by BestCaffe

The Provenance

Our trademark Organic Coffee, or “Organická Káva ® “ in our language, comes to you for the first time directly from the farms deep within the forests of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is carefully selected by our baristas who thoroughly control its first class quality. The magic of brewing and roasting remains in our shops –

all you need to know is that it simply tastes good, while still being healthy because it does not contain metals such as aluminum and zinc, pesticide residues and other 133 contaminants which can be found in a single cup of commercially available coffee. Welcome and taste the real coffee.

From farm to your table

Growing and Harvesting

Once ripe, the coffee cherries must be harvested.
This is a process still done manually.

Our Organic Coffee is imported from the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The lava soil on Sumatra is rich on minerals and positively affect growth of coffee trees and quality of the coffee beans.

The coffee grows on trees in red berries similar to cherries which have two coffee beans inside. These are sorted manually and only those with highest quality are picked and later going to be roasted. Our organic coffee is single, non-blended coffee from the best farms in Indonesia.

Brewing and roasting

The raw beans have green color. As the chaff is released from the bean they change to a yellow straw color. During roasting process beans begin to expand and lose moisture, they go through a series of cracks to reach their full flavor potential reaching the typical brown color as we all know it. After roasting we cool them down which is important for keeping the flavor. This process of cooling
undergo strict norms of organic brewing

Once finished, the beans are dumped into bags or buckets where they are cooled before further processing.

The beans are further packed into ecological packs. We pack only whole beans which keep their original great flavor and aroma due to special vent on the pack.

The finished coffee is delivered to our own coffee houses and to our customers. Currently we serve mainly coffee shops in Europe.

And still the story does not end

Organic coffee is not only about health, it’s a lifestyle

The primary reason that coffee consumption seems to reduce the risk of various sicknesses is that coffee contains antioxidants. Antioxidants help prevent the damage caused by excessive oxidation and to a degree inhibit the aging process. Medical research has shown a reduced risk of Type II diabetes, a lower cancer risk, less depression, a reduced risk of suicide, fewer gall stones, and even a lower incidence of Alzheimer’s disease. When you drink healthy coffee you care about your health.

Fair trade and Organic

We are producers and importers of trademark Organická Káva ®. The quality of the organic coffee is guaranteed by FAIR TRADE which means that we care not only about our own business but also about business of our suppliers – farmers who deserve fair reward for their great work.

The coffee is also certified with ORGANIC which undergo strict code of growing organic coffee. Due to the fact that we go direct and exclude large chain stores you can get our coffee for the price of regular commercially available coffee.

It’s good for you and nature

Growing and producing organic coffee protect environment. Organic farming preserves top soil and protects the water table. Growing coffee in the shade of native trees preserves the forest for birds and other creatures that are otherwise displaced in farming operations. Why drink organic coffee?

Drink organic coffee because it is good for the environment. “Unum quidem movere cum in rerum natura coniuncta inventur in omni ceteros” – When we move a single thing in a nature we realize it’s connected with entire rest of the world” (J.Muir)

History of coffee and organic coffee

The history of coffee goes at least as far back as the thirteenth century with a number of myths surrounding its first use. The original native population of coffee could have come from Ethiopia, Sudan or Kenya, and it was cultivated by Arabs from the 14th century. The earliest credible evidence of either coffee drinking or knowledge of the coffee tree appears in the middle of the fifteenth century, in the Sufi monasteries of Yemen. By the 16th century it had reached the rest of Middle East, Persia, Turkey and northern Africa. Coffee then spread to Balkans, Italy and to the rest of Europe, to Indonesia and then to the Americas. Healthy organic coffee has been around ever since coffee was discovered growing wild and ever since it was first grown. However, the history of organic coffee of the certified variety starts in 1990.

The Organic Foods Production Act was passed in 1990. It required to establish a National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances which identifies synthetic substances that may be used, and the nonsynthetic substances that cannot be used, in organic production and handling operations. The reason that organic coffee certification as well as certification of other foods came into being is that farmers learned that they could increase production by using synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. Because there was no clear way to differentiate between products grown by an organic method and those grown by more modern methods a need arose to certify food as organic.
